This evening Rustin and I were heading out to Lowe's to get some things to refinish our coffee table when I got a phone call from a girlfriend of mine. She sounded a little weird and simply said "I need help! My husband's out of town and I think there's a giant rat in my dryer". My response was "We're on the way!" I told Rustin what was going on and then I stopped for a minute to figure out exactly how to be helpful. I believe this was the moment when Rustin felt the same way. After a few minutes of debating & poking through things in the garage we ruled out hitting it with a tennis racket, trapping it with a net (we don't own one) and sucking it up in the leaf blower/sucker thingy. We finally got into the car with a broom, a pair of rubber dish washing gloves and a cardboard box, leftover from a wedding gift.
When we showed up at her house Rustin opened the dryer and couldn't find anything. The noises she'd been hearing had stopped. We couldn't find anyway for the rat to get in. As a last ditch effort Rustin disconnected the hose from the back of the dryer and out flew a HUGE black bird. He swatted at it with the broom a couple of times and opened the garage door and out it flew. I guess maybe he's not a Rescue Ranger so much as Rustin Mahan, Bird Whisperer. Look out Cesar!
