One year ago today I was grocery shopping when Rustin called from work. He called to say that the family he was moving had a really sweet, beautiful dog that they weren't going to keep after they moved. (they were going to leave it in the yard for the next guy that moved in.)
I asked what kind of dog it was and when he said Great Dane I wanted to say no right away. I said I'd look up some info on how big they get etc. when I got home and let him know what I thought. When I read that the males are 150+ lbs on average I called him back and said NO. He reassured me that since she was a female she wouldn't be as big. I let him know that the decision was his to make but if he brought her home she'd be part of the family. He agreed and promised to call on the way home.
4 Hours later I hadn't heard from him. I was starting to get worried when I heard the truck pull up. I flipped on the porch light to see this black, floppy eared, clumsy looking horse/dog come galloping up the driveway.
The rest as they say is history.

I'm so glad she's a part of our family. Its hard to remember things around here pre Grace. To celebrate, I'm going to make a "Homecoming Cake" for Grace and Dixie to share.
